Why Did I Write this Book?

After decades working in physics, robotics, and computing—including building brain-like computers at DARPA—I came to realize that life doesn’t follow neat equations. The universe isn’t a machine. Neither are we.

This book offers a new perspective—what I call thermodynamicalism—rooted in science but open to mystery. At its heart is THE CUT, a discontinuity where existence, meaning, and intelligence emerge. It’s uncomputable. And it’s alive.
